Become a Fairtrade Zone

Becoming a Fairtrade Zone signals that people across a large area are committed to supporting Fairtrade and helping disadvantaged producers in the developing world get a fair deal.

To become a Fairtrade Zone, Local Authorities need to follow these 5 easy steps:
1. Local authority passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and agrees to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee at its meetings and in its offices and canteens.

2. A range of (at least two) Fairtrade products is readily available in the area’s shops and local cafés/catering establishments.

3. Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places (estate agents, hairdressers etc) and community organisations (places of worship, schools etc).

4. Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign.

5. A local Fairtrade steering group is convened to ensure continued commitment to its Fairtrade Zone status.

These goals are the same as those for Fairtrade Towns, Cities, and Counties.
