About Us
The Scottish Fair Trade Forum began working in 2007 to make Scotland one of the world's first Fair Trade Nations. Wales became the first in June 2007 and Scotland hopes to become the second - and largest - Fair Trade Nation!
We were set up by a group of committed Fair Trade campaigners and NGOs, with the support of then-Minister for EU, External Affairs and Culture, Patricia Ferguson MSP. The Scottish Government continues to support and work with us, and we work with partner organisations and individuals throughout Scotland, the UK and the developing world to promote and support Fair Trade and Fair Trade activity in Scotland.
Our main aim is to help Scotland become a Fair Trade Nation to meet a set of criteria established by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Scottish Government. We do that through working with Local Authorities and universities, offering support and networking to local groups and schools, offering small grants for local Fair Trade activity and holding regular events around Scotland.
'Workers in developing countries have the right to be treated with respect and paid a decent wage; by working with the Scottish Fair Trade Forum Scots are supporting that right.'
Gail Porter, TV presenter and Fair Trade campaigner
